Welcome
Tips & Tricks:
  1. Determine the primary caretaker and decide the pet’s boundaries. Clearly determining each of these can help to prevent a new pet from developing bad behaviors.
  2. Prepare your home. Look around and take notice of what the new pet may be able to access that could be dangerous. (i.e. plants, small toys, toys they may chew and digest, dangerous food, etc.)
  3. Provide a nutritious well balanced diet, suitable housing and bedding. Food, bowls, crate, tags, toys, leashes, collars, bed, blanket, and more!
  4. Create and schedule a plan for your new pet including: feeding times, taking your new pet out to potty, play and bedtime.
  5. If you plan to have a crate trained pet, introduce the crate on day 1.
  6. Find a local veterinarian. A new puppy or kitten will need vaccines. Count on heartworm prevention, testing for intestinal parasites, a microchip, spaying, and neutering depending on his/her sex and species.
  7. Groom your pet regularly. Brushing and bathing is fun for all!
  8. Read and educate yourself on how to train and socialize your new family member.
  9. There will be lots of excitement bringing home your new pet but it’s good to keep the atmosphere low-key while he/she is warming up to its new home.
  10. Be patient with your new friend. He/she is bound to make mistakes, and just like your human family, needs to be loved and at times forgiven. Follow the above & you will be off to a great Beginning!
